About NIMS
Nirmala Mahila Samajam is a Women's organization.
Its birth day is 1980 January 7th. Seeing the utter helplessness and miseries of women, children, tribals, and rural people of Wayanad during the year 1978 Sr.Alphonsa – a member of Bethany sister as well as the administrator of Fathima Hospital Pallikunnu was moved with pity and decided to help them. She and her co-workers found time to meet women, tribal and rural people at their huts and work sight prepared a ground, and formed a group. They started meetings and had awareness classes on health, hygiene, literacy, savings, etc. Thus she induced and empowered the women to work for their development. They found it is good to work together to reach a bright future.

Vision and Mission
Nirmala Mahila Samajam is an agent of development and change that will foster a loving human and just society more specifically to empower socially and economically poor and oppressed Women, tribal,rural people and communities. NMS will propogate and develop awareness education.Vocational and technical skills for employment and self employment. Income generating activities, fundamental needs of housing,sanitation,drinking water etc. ln fulfilling its task of enhancing the developments and capacities of women,tribals etc. as a means of sustainable livelihood for the opressed .deprived , exploited and marginalised groups with a focus on the women and tribal among them.
Our Strategies
We will persue its role in capacity building of women , children and youth through awareness generation , training , information, dissemination and networking.We will use in appropriate technology solutions for basic needs of food,fuel, water ,heating ,housing,transport of rural communities with a special focus on the needs of women. We will work towards promotion of micro enterprise to strenghen the economy of the women and marginalized. We will promote job oriented ir raining to youth and facilitate placement of trainees. We will provide them appropriate educational,nutritional,medical, Social and psychological inputs.We will respond to the socio- economic fundamental needs of their families through various programs and services.We will promote people’s participation in planning,decision making ,implementation and evaluation.We will develop and foster the local human resources. We will promote leadership skills among the people.
